Opening

The North British Railway opened Bridge Street station (now Waverley station) at the East End of Princes Street in June 1846.    1

A service ran from here to Berwick  -  the start of what was in 1850 to become the East Coast main line between Edinburgh Waverley and London Kings Cross stations.
