The Royal Mile

Street names in The Royal Mile

The Royal Mile runs from Edinburgh Castle on top of Castle Hill, down the ridge to Holyrood Palace, about a mile to the east.

The street has several names.  They are, travelling down the hill from the castle:

-  Castle Hill   -  a narrow street, from the Castle Esplanade past the Camera Obscura

-  Lawnmarket  -  continuing down the hill past George IV Bridge.

-  High Street  -  from St Giles Cathedral and past North & South Bridge

-  Canongate - through the old borough of Canongate past Canongate Tolbooth.
