Engravings and Engravers

This web site,  www.edinphoto.org.uk  includes many engravings of views of Edinburgh, so that the scenes can be compared with later photographs of the same locations.

Edinburgh has a long tradition of publishing.  This created a demand for engravings, particularly in the 19th century, and a demand for photographs in later years.  Several of Edinburgh's early photographers were also engravers, or had links with engraving.
