This photograph was taken in September 1956.  The location is not recorded, but it is presumably somewhere in the Edinburgh area, like all the other photographs from the same source that have been identified.

"I don't know if anybody has noticed, but the worker in this photo is the same man as is standing beside the line on the photo below."

Dunfermline Area

"This engine is a B1.  According to my shedbook of 1958, the engine is allocated to Dunfermline.  It would have had shed code 62C  on its  smokebox.

So I'd say that the photo would have been taken somewhere in the Dunfermline area  -  certainly somewhere in Fife."

Here are two photos of the man who is thought to have taken the photo at the top of this page and other railway photos in and around Edinburgh in the 1950s and 1960s.
