James Howie Junior

'Established 1839'

Cartes de Visite

For several years, James Howie Junior claimed that his business had been established in 1839.  Then (prompted by what?) he changed the wording on the back of his cartes de visite to read 'Established 1840'.

James' father held a daguerreotype exhibition in Edinburgh in 1839, but I have still to trace the actual date that the family's Princes Street studio was first opened.
