This site began with a list of professional photographers. 

I have now begun to extend this site to include photographic dealers and manufacturers of photographic equipment, beginning with a few of the more prominent companies in the 19th century.

Early Days

Possibly Edinburgh's first manufacturer of photographic equipment was Thomas Davidson, born in 1798.

1892

Three Edinburgh companies exhibited equipment at the Photographic Convention of the United Kingdom held in Edinburgh in 1892.  All were based in Lothian Road. They were:
