I did like the photos of
Duncans Chocolate Factory and the area round there, and well remember the
Olden Days when the trams were more common.

I worked as a lad with Duncans before moving to Beaverbank
Place. There I was an Apprentice with the Foden Agency, Beaverbank Motors,
in their Wee Bit Interface.
Then, Dayanite made Bed Settees across the road from us,
and Robert Lamb the Box Maker owned the land including where Tyresoles might fix
a Bus.
In 1948, there were displays, from a factory that made
cigarettes to an outlet for Albion lorries outer ways - and a place where
distilled water for a battery could be bought.
At the bottom of Beaverbank Place on the right,
there was a short cut to Symington Coffee Factory. The man who stoked
their Boilers used to come that way now and then, as he needed petrol to fire
his car to take him to his But and Ben.
The cooperage was just across the way, and the garage had
a back door that passed us, through to Robert Lambs outlay. Then it was a short
walk to Tyresoles front door, where we played football.
I didn't last as an apprentice, preferring to enter the
Army for a time, but my memories still linger, whenever I'm into my usual verse
or rhyme.
Those days were something
special that can never return again, from working in the main Packing Room at
Duncan's to sweeping the old chocolate papers with a massive broom.
