Here is a passenger train at Merchiston Station.  I don't know the date of the photo.  Passenger services ended on September 10, 1962.

Footpath and Cycle Track - 2006

Part of the former railway line has now been converted to a footpath and cycle track.  Here is what it looked like when I visited Merchiston in 2006.
