E Catling

Question

What is known about E Catling?

I have not found his name listed in any of the Edinburgh Trade Directories.

However, Winnie Lisowski has sent me this portrait of one of her family, taken by E Catling, which she believes would have been taken in the early-1930s.

Thank you to Winnie for telling me about this photographer.  This is the first addition to my list of 'Photographers 1839-1939' for over a year

She was my Mum's friend for over 85 years.  They started Abbeyhill School together  at the age of 5, then went on to Broughton Secondary and continued to be good friends for the rest of their lives.

They attended Abbeyhill School from 1919 to 1926, then Broughton."

Harry Gilbert

Edinburgh

It appears that E Catling may have been a professional photographer in Edinburgh for a fairly lengthy period, despite never appearing in the Edinburgh trade directories.

Thank you to Harry Gilbert for reminding me that on this Hutchison & Chesser page, about five years ago, I had mentioned a photo of the Boys' Brigade 67th Company taken in 1944 by E W Catling.
