The Scottish Highlands

Horatio Ross exhibited 52 collodion prints, including many Scottish Highland views.  Titles included:

-  View in Glen Calvie, Ross-shire (2 photos)

Stalking in the Scottish Highlands

He also exhibited views of deer stalking.  Titles included:

-  All Alone

-  A Good Stag - pity his horns are not clean

-  Close Stalking - 'Be Ready'

-  Dead Game

-  Deer Stalking by the side of a Waterfall

-  Crossing the Burn

-  'He will weigh well'

-  Highland Burn with Dead Stag

Birmingham Photographic Society - 1857

Hunting, Shooting & Fishing

Horatio Ross exhibited 56 collodion and waxed paper prints, including  many Scottish Highland views of deer stalking and fishing.  28 of the photographs were offered for sale at 8s 6d each.

Some titles were quite descriptive:

-  After a successful Stalk getting close to two Stags.

-  Companions of many pleasant hours in the Highlands

-  Falls of Feannon, 70 feet, Ross-shire

-  Stag left by the Burnside, until the arrival of a Pony to carry it away.

-  The 12th August  -  Preparing for a day's Grouse Shooting.

-  The stag having been wounded made for the nearest burn, and there killed.

In the same exhibition, Mrs [Henrietta] Horatio Ross also exhibited a photograph by Horatio Ross.  Its title was "A Photographer in his studio".  Was this perhaps the self- portrait below?
