Ivan Szabo who took the photographs above was elected an Honorary Member of Photographic Society of Scotland in 1856.  He was then based in St Andrews working with Thomas Rodger.

He became a professional photographer in Edinburgh the following year.  He exhibited his work in the first three PSS Exhibitions, in 1856, 1857 and 1858.

William Henry Fox Talbot made most of his early photographic discoveries at Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire, now the Fox Talbot museum.  During that time he communicated regularly with Sir David Brewster in St Andrews.
