Don McCullin

AN exhibition of photographs taken when Don McCullin, one of the world's leading photojournalists, travelled to  Zambia and South Africa with Christian Aid.

Don's first photogrpahs were published in 1958.  In recent years he has used exhibitions as a means of conveying the the powerful messages captured by his camera.

Kate Gillan, formerly of the Edinburgh Evening News, became Diago Young Photographer of the Year at the UK Picture Awards, 2004.

As a result, she received the Alan Harper Bursary.  This funded a photographic project in which she documented the work of Merci Corps, an international relief development organisation, in Indonesia and Sri Lanka, two of the countries that were hit by the Tsunami on 26 December 2004.

There are 32 framed colour photos in the exhibition, showing scenes from the aftermath of the disaster and portraits of some of those involved.

Prints of Edinburgh

The Butchart Bequest

This is another small exhibition of engravings and lithographs of Edinburgh collected by Robert Butchart, City Librarian from 1942 until 1953.

The exhibition is in the cabinets on the staircase leading up from the ground floor of the library.  Other prints from the Buchart Bequest were exhibited here in early 2003.
