The leisure development at Fountain Park on the north side of Fountainbridge was completed several years ago. More recently, the first stage of Edinburgh Quay Edinburgh Quay development was completed, with new offices, restaurants and apartments around the canal basin. What next? The following are now proposed: - Edinburgh Quay: more offices (55,000 sq ft) + retail (6,000 sq ft) - Edinburgh Quay: 60 more apartments - Lochrin Place: 130 new apartments - Fat Sam's restaurant (site of): offices and restaurants. - Springside (area to the east of Fountain Park): 600 new homes. * - Buredi (N side of canal): 171 homes + offices * - Buredi (N side of canal): mini-canal basin + courtyard * - South of Fountain Park: new global HQ for HBOS, for 6,000 workers Evening News: March 24, 2008, p.11. |

2. Recession - 2009 |

Proposals for developing the land to the west of Edinburgh Quay (see 1 above) are not now to proceed. Buredi The council-backed company, Burundi Fountainbridge, which was hoping to build on this site, formerly occupied by the Tartan Club, has now gone into liquidation following withdrawal of its funding by Royal Bank of Scotland. Springside The second phase of development for the Springside development, on the opposite side of the road, Fountainbridge , has also stopped. It has been put on hold until the economy improves. 3. Recession - Beyond 2009? |

Buredi Administrators, KPMG, have made attempts to sell the land formerly occupied by the Tartan Club, following the liquidation of Buredi Fountainbridge, now in liquidation. However, KPMG did not consider any of the bids received to be adequate, so the land is likely to remain empty until the market picks up Evening News: May 20, 2009: P.19.. |
