Where is it?
This is one of a large collection of
photos taken by Robert Blomfield in Edinburgh between 1956 and 1967.
Robert's brother, John is in the process of scanning and cataloguing the photos.
He'd like to discover where this
photo was taken. If you recognise the location,
please email me, then I'll pass on the news to John.
Thank you

"This picture
reminds me of Harrison Park. I played there lots as a bairn. I
daresay it look similar to any other park, but I’ll go for Harrison Park."

"This photo looks very much
like the swing park at Harrison Park. The tenements to the right
look like Watson Crescent and the building gable ends possibly
North
Merchiston Boys' Club.
I played there often when I lived in Ritchie Place."

Agreed
I agree with Betty and Walter above. That is certainly Watson
Crescent in the background. I used to be a customer of H A West
in the 1990s, when I was using the Edinburgh Photographic Society colour
darkroom to make prints.
H A West sold medical and photographic supplies from their premises
near the west end (i.e. the park end end) of Watson Crescent
I visited Harrison Park in very cold weather on 18 March and took a
couple of photos which I hope to add to this page soon.

"I've had another look at the photographs and I'm fairly sure that this
one was taken in Harrison Park. I've attached a screenshot from
Google maps and the tenement and the row of three building tie in quite
well."

Agreed
Thanks Alan.
I agree. The 1960 photo
and the recent Google image both show the play area in the corner of
Harrison Park, with Watson Crescent in the background.
However, I've not added your
Google image to the web site because at the same time as you were sending
your email to me I was around Edinburgh with my camera, including Harrison
Park where I took a couple of photos.
Please see 'Reply 4' below.

I took a couple of photos in
Harrison Park on March 18, 2013. Here they are in black+white to
match the 1960s photo, then in colour.
- Photo 13a was taken from about the same position as the 1960
photo.
- Photo 13b was taken from a little further forward.
I was interested to see that
the
North
Merchiston Boys' Club has now changed its name. A
full size copy of Photo 13a shows that the large sign on the gable
of the right-hand low building in the background
reads:
NORTH MERCHISTON BOYS &
GIRLS CLUB

WITH THE COMMUNITY Tel 622 1757 |

"I think this photo was taken from the
playground in the north east section of Harrison Park, bordered by West
Bryson Road, Harrison Road and the Union Canal.
The block of flats on the right are on the
south east side of Watson Crescent.
