Milnes' Delivery Van

This photograph of a One Ton Daimler Van (cost £517  2s.9d.) was taken at Blair Street in February 1903.  The driver in this photograph is Davie Small.  The packer is John Combe.

The van belonged to Milnes, stationers, and was used to transport goods between their newly opened Bowersburn Works in Leith and Blair Street, near the Tron Kirk in the Old Town of Edinburgh.

The quotation on the side of the van is "Boons & Blessings".  I remember seeing an old enamel advertising sign in Blair Street in the 1960s that read:

"They come as a boon and a blessing to men,
The Pickwick, the Owl, and the Waverley Pen."
