Thank you to Tam Croal for allowing me to reproduce this photo.  This is one of many photos taken by Tam's father, Wullie Croal, in the Dumbiedykes district  between the 1950s and 1970s.

Question

When was this photo taken and who are these five girls?   Was it the same occasion as the party below.  Both photos were taken just inside Holyrood Park, beside the steps to Heriot Mount.

I'm hoping to contact Joyce Ritchie (nee Croal) again.   Her family they stayed in No.6 Heriot Mount and we stayed in No.7.  We were great friends."

Joyce Ritchie

It was Joyce Ritchie who wrote Reply 1 above and identified all the girls in this photo for me, 7 years ago.

UPDATE

I'm pleased to be able to report that I got a message from Eileen this evening telling me that she had been successful in contacting Joyce at the email address that Joyce used to contact the EdinPhoto web site in 2009.

Eileen tells me that this is the first time that she has made contact with Joyce in 60 years.

Television

"Joyce's Nana was the only person having a television and she used to have all us children into her sitting room.  We sat in rows watching 'Andy Pandy', 'Muffin the Mule' and 'Bill & Ben'."

Fond Memories

"We stayed in Heriot Mount until 1961 when we moved to Clermiston. I have lots of fond memories of my childhood playing peevery beds, hide and seek, marbles and leevoy.

We went to Rankeillor Street with our roller skates because it was a lovely smooth tarmacked road.

On school holidays we had a daily exercise routine.  We claimed the rocks in Heriot Mount at the foot of the park steps, went up the steps, down the hill, over the road and climbed up to the Radical Road and then all the way back.

We went to the New Victoria cinema (6d to get in) on a Saturday morning and then re-enacted Flash Gordon, Roy Rogers or Hopalong Cassidy for the rest of the week.

They were great times."

Heriot Mount

"I remember Eileen Melrose, the girl in the middle of this photo, from my past as I used to live in No.4 Herriot Mount and she lived in No 7.

My name then was Jean Dalgliesh.  I had  red hair  and went to Preston Street school then on to Moray House.

I'd like to contact Eileen again now, if that's possible.

Message for Jean Duff

I've passed on Eileen Melrose's email address to Jean Duff.
I hope Jean will be able to make contact with Eileen again soon.

If you would also like to contact either Eileen or Jean, please email me, then I'll pass on their email addresses to you.

Thank you.
