A H Baird

1891, 1892

The top advert is the earliest that I have seen for A H Baird's business.  It comes from the December 1891 and 1892 editions of Transactions of the Edinburgh Photographic Society.

1893

The second advert above shows a rather more elaborate logo, then described as a Trade Mark.  This first appeared in the January 1893 edition of Transactions of Edinburgh Photographic Society, followed by other adverts using the same trade mark in later months, advertising A H Baird's own products which he sold under the Lothian banner.  His business was in Lothian Street, Edinburgh.

1894

The third advert includes an illustration of the Todd Forret magnesium flash lamp, an item that A H Baird had been promoting for some time.

1895

A H Baird's advert in May 1895 announced that his business was moving in May from 37 & 39 Lothian Street to 2 & 4 Brighton Street.

However he still appeared to continue to use both addresses, as in this advert from 1903:

1896

AH Baird continued to advertise in the Transactions of the Edinburgh Photographic Society.  In March, April and May 1896, he advertised:

-  the STANDARD LANTERN for making enlargements from quarter-plates.
 £5 5s.
(=£5.25)  Call in and see it in use.

-  the PARLOUR INCANDESCENT GAS LANTERN for home use.  Always ready  -  very clean  -  no smell  -  minimum heat  -  pleasing light.    45/-   (=£2.25)  Call in and see it in use.

In the June edition of Transactions, A H Baird advertised 'the best value in cheap sets' - TH Lothian Half-Plate Economic Set - a camera, dark slide, rectilinear lens, shutter, stand and case for £4 15s (£4.75).

1898

AH Baird's advertisement in the May 1898 edition of  Transactions of the Edinburgh Photographic Society took the form of advice to photographers.  The advice given in his top-right box is curious.

1899
