This map appears to have been published a few months after F J Fitzpayne
was appointed General Manager of Edinburgh Corporation Transport Dept on
10 January 1929. DLG
Hunter, in his book 'Edinburgh Transport, the Corporation Years'
(pp.45, 48) refers to several changes to
the tram services made by F J Fitzpayne in his first year in office,
including:
a) Tram Service 17 extended to Granton from
May 8, 1929.
b) Tram Service 8 extended to Newington from
June 2, 1929
c) Tram Service 10 extended to Foot of Leith
Walk from June 2, 1929
d) Tram Service 19 ceased from July 14,1929
e) Tram Service 12 extended, part-day, to
Joppa from September 1, 1929
f) Tram Service 26 ceased from November 17,
1929
This list of tram routes on the back of this map
includes changes a), b) and d) above, but not c), e) and f) above.
It seems odd that this map does not allow for c)
above. However it seems likely that this map would have been
published between about
July and September 1929. |
