Twenty Five Years of Photography

The NGS Collection

This exhibition marks the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Scottish National Photography Collection.  This is a growing collection of photos held at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.  The Scottish National Portrait Gallery is based at Queen Street, Edinburgh, and is soon to be refurbished.  It is one of the National Galleries of Scotland.

The Exhibition

This is a small exhibition, comprising a few photos from the Scottish National Photography Collection.  It includes images from the 19th and early 20th century by:

-  Hill & Adamson

-  Thomas Annan

-  James Craig Annan.

The 20th century images that I found to be most memorable were:

'Children Playing On A Lorry, Glasgow' by Roger Mayne, 1958.

-  Looking down on Forth Bridge from an open plane by Alfred G Buckham'

The first of these two images is the one used by the National Gallery of Scotland on their exhibition poster.  See the picture at the top of this page.
