Surprise Party for John Stewart to thank him for his 'Old Leither' web site |

The Party This party was held in Leith Library on October 9, 2010, to thank John for all the work he had done in creating and running his 'Old Leither' web site over the past nine years. The web site holds photos and memories of Leith. The party was organised by four contributors to the site: - Frank Ferri - Bob Moffat - Graham Whyte - Jack MacKenzie Guests included: - Mark Lazarowicz who has been MP for Edinburgh North and Leith since 2001, the year that John created his 'Old Leither' site. - Laurie Reilly, John's 'hero' who played for Hibernian FC. Laurie joined the Hibs team in 1946 and was one of the 'Famous Five' in their forward line in the 1950s. All five reached 100 goals for Hibs in their careers. Jack Mackenzie telephoned John from New Zealand during the party. |

The Surprise John did not know about the party until he arrived at Leith Library. He had been told that he was coming to Leith for a celebration that had been organised for his mother, the oldest surviving family member in Leith, now aged 102 ! |

'Get-Together' May 6, 2011 |

Leith Dockers' Club Frank Ferri tells me that, following the surprise party for John Stewart, author of the 'Old Leither' web site, held in October 2010, he has arranged another 'wee get-together' for former and existing senior Leithers. It will be held 2pm - 6pm on Friday May 6, 2011 at the Leith Dockers' Club. So far, there have been acceptances from people living in Leith, Yorkshire, Kent, Texas and Canada.
