St Leonard's Station

Edinburgh - Dalkeith Railway

St Leonard's Station, beside Holyrood Park,  was at the Edinburgh end of the Edinburgh - Dalkeith railway, Edinburgh's first railway, originally horse-drawn.

The railway opened in 1831 to transport coal.  A passenger service was added the following year.  the passenger service lasted until 1846, then re-opened briefly in 1860.
