Traffic Surveys

St John's Road, Corstorphine

1931 Survey

On a recent visit to Corstorphine Heritage Trust's museum at the Heritage Centre, Corstorphine, I was interested to read this survey of traffic passing along St John's Road, Corstorphine.

St John's Road is part of the Edinburgh-Glasgow Road, at Corstorphine, about 3 miles to the west of the centre of Edinburgh.

I was interested to see the many British cars and the large number of trams that were recorded in the survey.

2011 Survey

I visited  Corstorphine, today and counted the vehicles passing along St John's Road.  I stood just to the west of the junction with Clermiston Road.

There were too many vehicles to count both directions at the same time, so I counted:

-  for one hour from 4pm, vehicles travelling east, then

-  for one hour from 5pm, vehicles travelling west

Here are the results, set out in the same format as for the 1931 survey.
