Transporting Esparto Grass from Granton Harbour

Bryan Gourlay first contacted me in June 2006 and sent me his recollections of transporting esparto grass from Granton, together with the small photo on the right above.

Now I have received more comments and the large photo above from Bryan.

 Bryan writes:

Esparto Grass Lorry  -  Where?

"You might recall my reminiscences about my dad taking esparto grass from Granton to Balerno and Auchendinny in the 1950s.

Here is another picture of his heavily overloaded lorry.

In those days, they didn’t bother about axle weights and regulations – they loaded up until there was just enough room between the mudguards and the tyres for the wheels to go round.

This view might help someone identify whether the photo was taken at Granton or one of the paper mills. Last time, someone suggested it might have been Inverkeithing.
