"Our boat 'Frances Ann' was used for school trips, pond dipping etc., during the day.  During the evenings it was used as a bar restaurant, berthed at Harrison Park."

Delivery to Harrison Park

"Here is a photo of her being delivered, prior to launching on the canal at Harrison Park (in 1988**, if memory serves me well).

I believe.  We caused quite a stir.  My daughter Wendy is in the foreground with the champagne, ready to smash it on the hull. Sadly, due to my late wife's illness I had to sell the boat."

Retired

"I'm now retired and spend most of my time writing.  Anyone who remembers me or the 'Frances Ann' is welcome to get in touch."

"I came upon these photos of the 'Frances Ann' when I was researching the boat (now 'Zazou').  I'm looking at buying it and returning it to something rather more like its original purpose, an ecology centre and cafe."

Date of the Original Photo

"You have given a date of 1988** for the photo on the left above, which is rather strange.  The current seller (and his boat safety certificate) has the boat down as having been built in 1999!  That fits in with everything else I can find about it, including a photo that I have of the boat being lowered into the canal by a crane.

The telephone number painted on the crane begins '0131', so I'm fairly sure that the photo must have been taken some time after Phone Day in 1995!"

Reply to Fergus

**  Thanks, Fergus,  for your comments above.  It looks as if I must have been mistaken about the date  when I added my original '1988' caption for the photo at the top of this page.  I've now removed that caption.

(I've passed on to Fergus the latest email address that I have for David Ford.  I hope that David will still be using the same email address now, and that Fergus will be able to get in touch with him.)

Union Canal

1990s

Here is a photo that I took in the 1990s of the Frances Ann on the Union Canal in the 1990s, on an evening walk along the canal with a group from Edinburgh Photographic Society.  David is standing on the stern of the boat with his back to the camera.
