Looking along Princes Street

This photo was taken on St Andrew's Day, November 30, 2010, looking to the east along Princes street.

Buildings and Monuments

The building in the upper-right corner of  this photo with the tall clock tower, above the helter skelter, is The Balmoral Hotel, formerly The North British Railway Hotel' or 'The 'NB'.

The snow-covered roof of the underground Princes Mall shopping centre can be seen in front of the Balmoral Hotel.  This shopping centre was built on the site of Waverley Market, beside Edinburgh Waverley Station.

The buildings on the left with the ornamental tower was formerly Forsyth's Store and is now a branch of Top Shop.

The monuments on Calton Hill can be seen in the background.

Buses

There is now 'route branding' for many of Lothian Buses' bus routes.  The two buses approaching the camera are in the new 'Lady Victoria' livery with yellow roofs.  They are on Route 3 which would normally take them to  Clovenstone, but because of the disruption caused by the recent snow, they are operating a part-route to Westside Plaza.

The three closest buses travelling in the opposite direction, to the east,  along Princes Street are:

-   Double-decker, pink roof:  Route 22 to Ocean Terminal, Leith

-   Single-decker, red roof:  Route 3 to to Mayfield or Gorebridge
(probably operating part-route because of the snow).

-   Double-decker, yellow roof:  Route 29 to Mayfield or Gorebridge (probably operating part-route because of the snow).
