45th Craigmillar Festival

The Craigmillar Festival was held on Saturday July 4, 2009 in and around:

ArtSpace, the art center in the former Craigmillar Primary School at 11 Harewood Road AND

The Venchie, the adventure playground in Niddrie Mains Terrace, behind ArtSpace.

This was the 45th Craigmillar Festival.

Activities included music, painting, pony rides, 'Beat the Goalie, Harley Davidson bikers, highland dancing, karaoke and a karate demonstration.

Exhibition

Craigmillar Festival also includes an exhibition "Craigmillar Then ...".  The exhibition shows the development of Grater Craigmillar from the 1880s to date.

Some of the photos from this exhibition were featured in a 2-page spread in the Nostalgia feature in the Edinburgh Evening News on Saturday July 11, 2009.

This exhibition will remain open until July 18 2009 at the John Maxwell Gallery, ArtSpace  -  daily (except Sundays) from noon until 4pm.

Location

An advert for 'Craigmillar Festival, 2009', in Niddrie Mains Road, opposite Wauchope Avenue said: "Follow the flowers"

This photo looks to the north down Wauchope Avenue, towards ArtSpace where the festival was held.

Rex Launderette

The small posts on the pavement on the right-hand side of this photo show where the Rex Laundrette once stood.  It was demolished in 2007.
