Torchlight Procession

The start of Edinburgh's New Year Celebrations is celebrated by a Torchlight Procession from The Royal Mile via The Mound, Princes Street and Waterloo Place to the top of Calton Hill where there are floodlit monuments, fireworks and a bonfire.

View to the West

The photo at the top of this page was taken from Calton Hill following the torchlight procession on December 30, 2011.  It looks to the west from Calton Hill towards:

-  Dome of Camera Obscura (red, but it continually changes colour)

-  Head Office of the Bank of Scotland on The Mound.

-  Edinburgh Castle, high on Castle Hill.

-  Clock Tower of Balmoral Hotel.

-  Scott Monument in Princes Street.
