FOREGROUND:   -  West Princes Street Gardens
-  Edinburgh Castle on Castle Rock
-  Johnston Terrace

CENTRE LEFT:  -  The Mound
-  Spires of The Tron, St Giles and Highland Tolbooth churches
    in the Royal Mile
-  Dome of Edinburgh University

BACKGROUND:   -  Arthur's Seat in Holyrood Park

The Message

This card was posted in 1959.  It has not been signed. I am trying to discover who wrote it.  If you can help,  please email me.

The writer conveys far more information than is usually found on postcards. e.g. "Having a good holiday.  Weather fine."

The message starts with a gives a good summary of Edinburgh in 22 words.  It reads:

Edinburgh is full of insurance companies, churches, Americans and Tartan gifts.  It's a nice colour though and very satisfyingly laid out.

We're now in the Lower Highlands, encompassed round with purple glens, grouse and bagpipes.  The cows are beautiful.

Myself, I spend much time bounding from peak to peak with my band of blackfaced sheep.  They're much more intelligent than the Southerners.

Pity you didn't come.  I could do with a quiet companion to appreciate the beauties of Nature with.  The lochs are ever so melancholia inducing.

We are here till 22nd
here:  Atholl Palace Hotel, Pitlochry, Perthshire.
