Here is an interesting mix of traffic, looking to the east along Musselburgh High Street (away from Edinburgh and Portobello) in 1905.

The destination on the nearest tram is Levenhall, and on the tram approaching in the distance is Portobello.  The name on the building behind the horse and horse-box is Musselburgh Hotel. *

I think the hotel behind the horse box is actually the 'Musselburgh Arms Hotel', not the 'Musselburgh Hotel'.

It was used for drinking and dining by early golfers coming down from Edinburgh.  It also had rooms in which they could stay.

Some reports speak of the 'gentlemen' throwing pennies out to the lads in the street, though I am not sure why!

My grandfather was married in the hotel.

It's in a sad state now! It is currently the subject of a planning application for refurbishment, still as a hotel."
