Thank you to Randolph Webster for allowing me to reproduce the photograph above of Robert S Webster.  The photo was taken by Randolph Webster's father, who was also Robert S Webster's son.

Randolph, who was born in 1924,  tells me that he also has a photograph of himself sitting on Robert S Webster's knee, taken around 1927/28.

Randolph left Edinburgh for Newport on Tay, Fife, in 1952 and still lives there.

Question

By Royal Appointment

Randolph tells me that, at some point, Robert S Webster held the Royal warrant 'By Appointment of Queen Victoria' as photographer of the General Assembly in Scotland. 

Randolph has attempted to discover more about this appointment, but has not found anything yet.  Do you have any more information on this subject?
