Maid of the Forth

passes under the Forth Rail Bridge

Ferries from South Queensferry

The car ferry service linking South Queensferry and North Queensferry stopped operating in 1964 when the Forth Road Bridge opened.

However, in recent years a passenger ferry 'Maid of the Forth' has operated regular sailing from South Queensferry to the island of Inchcolm in the Firth of Forth, near Aberdour.

There are seals, sometimes dolphins and a variety of seabirds including puffins, cormorants, eiders, fulmars and gannets at Inchcolm.  The island also has a Medieval Abbey.

End of the Season

2005

In 2005, 'Maid of the Forth' sailed from South Queensferry to Inchcolm regularly between March 25 and October 30, with two sailings a day throughout most of July and August.

The photograph above shows the final sailing of 2005 , shortly after leaving Hawes Pier at South Queensferry at 2pm on a fine afternoon, Sunday October 30.

As well as its sailings from South Queensferry, 'Maid of the Forth' now has regular sailings from Newhaven Harbour to Inchcolm, school sailings and evening jazz and BBQ cruises.
