Most of the
Parisian Photo Co portraits that I have seen have been of ladies;
some have been of groups; very few have been of men or children.
This contrasts with the mix of subjects found on John McKean's cartes de
visite.
Tissue
was originally attached to cabinet prints and cartes-de-visite in order to
protect the photographs. Most of these old photos lost their tissue
many years ago, but for 13 and 14 below it is still attached and has been
folded back behind the card.
Parisian Photo Co's used many
different styles and typefaces for the printing below the picture on the
front of the card.
Edinburgh
and Leith Studios
Parisian Photo Co had
studios at:
- 1887-1914: 75 Princes Street / 1
Hanover Street, Edinburgh.
Both addresses refer to the same
building, on the corner of the two streets.
- 1889:
41 / 45 Bernard Street, Leith
Almost all the cards I have
seen have been from the Edinburgh studio.
Backs of
the Cabinet Prints
Parisian Photo Co's cabinet
prints had a wide variety of styles of back.
It would be interesting to find
some Parisian Photo Co. photos with dates written on the back then determine which
style(s) of front and back the company used in different years.
Studios
Edinburgh, Galashiels, Aberdour
Here is a Parisian Photo Co cabinet print that has addresses of studios
in Edinburgh and Galashiels on the back:
