The Book

Thank you to Peter Grootes, Best, The Netherlands for allowing me to reproduce photos from his book:

'Photograph from View Album of Edinburgh and District'

published by Patrick Thomson, Cash Drapery Store, North Bridge, Edinburgh, around the 1890s.    Here are a few more photos from the same book.

The View

This view looks along Princes Street from about the position of the North British Hotel, but may well have been taken from one of the earlier buildings that was on that site.  The North British Hotel opened in 1902.

The glazed area and gardens on the left of this picture are the roof of Waverley Market,  On the right is Princes Street with the ladders for the passengers on the coaches and the awnings giving shade to the shops on the north side of the street.

The Scott Monument is in the centre of this photo.
