about her father, Charlie Carroll. Perhaps somebody else reading
this will remember him.

1915 to 1967
"If my father,
Charlie Carroll, was still alive, he could have
enlightened you on so many things about the Edinburgh
Corporation Transport Dept.
He worked with
them from 1915 until he retired 1967.
- Working in
the Lost & Found Department
- Changing
the rail and swinging the cable on the tramcars
-
Tram driver
-
Bus Conductor
-
Regulator
-
Inspector.
In the latter years he worked out of Queen St
Head Office,

Toy Theatres
"Albert
Mackie, wrote a piece about him in the Edinburgh
Weekly, Aug 24th 1967.
Albert and he growing up together in Gayfield Street.
They made toy theatres, painted
the scenery and and characters.
Not far from their homes was the shop at the
corner of Union Street and Antigua Street where Robert Louis Stevenson
bought his cardboard theatres, as
described in 'Penny
Plain and Twopence Coloured'.
That Historical shop was still there in 1967.

Hobbies -
and Boxing!
My father was a wonderful person, with lots of
hobbies:
- drawing
- poetry
- snooker.
He even once,
while selling programmes for a boxing tournament,
known as 'Cotters Saturday Night',
at the Synod Hall in
Castle Terrace,
was asked to deputise.
Without any previous experience of
competitive boxing, he
was pitted against one of Edinburgh's best-known
boxers. Charlie knocked him out in the
first round.
