Lectures

JF Duthie joined Edinburgh Photographic Society 1898.  He gave lectures to EPS entitled:

1904    "Yachting Photography"

1908    “High Speed Photography”.

JF Duthie began his 1904 lecture to EPS with the words:

"Among the many sports with which photography is combined there is none, I consider, which lends itself to the use of the camera so much as yachting."

He ended his lecture with the words:

"In photographing yachts the operator must be able to judge distance accurately, and be prompt in using his camera, as the slightest hesitation usually means the loss of a good picture."

Exhibitions

J F Duthie's entry in the EPS Members' Exhibition, 1911 was described as:

THE AULD BRIG,  JEDBURGH:  a quaint and pleasing composition showing a fine vital quality in the masonry.

JF Duthie became President of EPS, for two years from 1908, and was still a Member in 1935.

JF Duthie became a commercial photographer in Edinburgh from 1924 to 1947.

Is JF Duthie related to Andrew Duthie, a Glasgow photographer who produced stereo views, including one of the Forth Bridge?
