Here is JCH Balmain (3rd from right) with his wife (third from left) and an American party on a cycling trip, visiting Edinburgh around1898.  This photograph was taken outside Balmain's studio.

James CH Balmain was Captain of Merchant Golf Club (as was Douglas May, EPS President 1996-99)  He was also a member of several other golf clubs and Mayfield Bowling Club.  He was a keen curler and a member of the Scottish Arts Club.  [SE]
