Rev Murdo Mackenzie

The portrait above is one of several postcard postcards of Reverends published by J R Russell of Edinburgh.  The photo is the only one that I have found, taken by John D Whyte.

The only Edinburgh photographer named Whyte that I have found in the Edinburgh trade directories is a John Whyte who had a studio in the 1880s.  Might D Whyte be related to him?

This postcard was posted from Edinburgh to Morayshire, Scotland on 28 January 1905, with the message:   "Well, what do you think of this Gentleman on the back.  Is he like the 'Wee Frees' do you think?

The 'Wee Frees' is a name given to that section of the Free Church of Scotland which did not re-unite when the United Free Church of Scotland was created in 1900.
