The portrait above is one of several postcard postcards of Reverends published by J R Russell of Edinburgh.  The photo is one of two that I have found, taken by John Moffat, both well lit to bring out the character of the sitter.  Here is the other:

This postcard was posted from Edinburgh to Carluke on 31 December 1905 with a message: "A Happy New Year to you all".
