Question

EPS Lecturer  -  1898

Who was 'James Paton of Glasgow' who delivered a Popular Lecture, titled 'The Great Venetian' to Edinburgh Photographic Society in 1898?

Was he one of the 'J Paton' professional photographers?

Answer

Thank you to John Humphrey, Toronto, Ontario, Canada who replied:

"The EPS lecturer James Paton was probably  unrelated to  John Naismith Paton b. Kilmallie, Argyll, who became a  photographer at 294 Shields Road Glasgow.

However, John Naysmith Paton did have an older brother named James, born 1855.  He appeared in the 1861 census, but has not been found in the 1871 census.  If he survived and became a photographer, he might have been the EPS lecturer.
