McLauchlan

Carte de Visite  -  c1890

Thank you to the Victorian Image Collection for sending me this carte de visite by McLauchlan.  It looks to me as if it probably dates from around 1890 (say, +/- 10 years)

The photographer's name is written, rather than printed, below the picture.  This suggests that he may have been just beginning his business, or perhaps took very few photos.

I can find no reference to him in any of the Edinburgh & Leith trade directories which is consistent with the comments in the previous paragraph.

Portobello Photographer  -  from 1925

The only McLauchlan mentioned in these directories is a James McLauchlan who was based at 21, Promenade, Portobello from 1925 until 1938.

The trade directories show him as being in partnership in 1928, trading as 'McLauchlan & Mason'

Was James McLauchlan related to the earlier McLauchlan, photographer, c.1890?
