Father and Son

James Coltart appears to have been the son of JR [James R] Coltart.  The two photographers were in business under their own names until 1931.

From 1931 onwards, both studios began to trade under the name JR Coltart & Son. 

JR Coltart advertised: “Patronised by HM The Queen”

 

Photographic Dealership

In addition to their photographic studios, the Coltart family had a photographic dealership and other businesses based at 11 Arcade, Princes Street in 1924, and at 9a Duke Street, Leith from 1925.  The businesses were:

-  1924-32:       J&W Coltart    - Photographic & Wireless Dealers  

-  1933-49:          JR Coltart     - Photographic & Meccano Dealers

-  1950-61:      J&W Coltart     - Photographic & Meccano Dealers.

 

Football Teams

JR Coltart took photographs of school classes and football teams.
