School Reunions
"I have organised two school reunions over the
last couple of years. These were for pupils:
- who left Leith Walk Primary School in
1957 and
- who left Norton Park Secondary School
in 1960.
This year was the 50th anniversary of us
leaving Leith Walk Primary. We had a brilliant turn-out. I wrote to
Leith Walk school and organised, through the headmaster, a tour of the
school which was a brilliant event and was enjoyed by all."

Contacting Former Pupils
"There are 2 more
chaps that we would dearly love to find. These
guys were in Mr Harper's class and left Leith
Walk Primary School in 1957.
They are:
- Robert
Bishop, who lived somewhere in the East William
Street area and then moved to Britwell Street Craigentinny.
- Derek
Spalding, who lived in Bothwell Street then
moved to Piersshill Grove.
Can anybody help us to
contact them?"

Hi Irene. It looks as
if we may be getting closer to finding an answer to your
question about Derek Spalding.
I've just received an email from Jane Carson. |

Derek Spalding
"You asked if
anyone knew where Derek Spalding was now. I didn't leave Leith Walk
until 1961 but Derek is my friend's cousin and,
as far as I know, he has lived in Canada for
years now.
When I next see my friend I will pass on your
email address for her to give to Derek and he may contact you."

"Thanks for the info. It would be great
if we could find Derek Spalding.
The other guy I mentioned at the time Robert
Bishop. I have found out recently that he
died about five years ago so that was sad news ."

Teachers
"My first teacher
at Leith Walk School
was Miss Brown who became Mrs Forsyth and emigrated to New Zealand.
The
Headmaster was a Mr Walker, and another teacher
was either Miss Pryde or Miss Reid - I can't
remember which.
The Banner
"Does anyone
remember waiting for Friday afternoons to see which class got The Banner
and was therefore allowed home half an hour
early?
Handwriting Competition
"I also remember a
handwriting competition organised by 'The Children's
Newspaper' using proper pen and ink. Ballpoint
pens were not allowed.
Quali Dance
"My Quali Dance was
16 Dec 1953, before leaving the
school the following June. We
had soft drinks and sandwiches/cakes in the classroom and dancing
in the gymnasium.
We practiced
the Dashing White Sargent and Gay Gordons etc for days beforehand.
Who says discos are a new thing?"
