Question

Old Tramcar

"I have for some time been trying to locate a photograph of an old single-deck tramcar that was used by the waterman's wife at Harlaw Reservoir to sell sweets etc., from.  The house is now used as a Ranger Visitor Centre and the garden is a Wildlife Garden, where the tramcar sat.

Have you ever come across it?

The tramcar was still there in the early 1960s, although it was no longer being used for selling sweets as it they did not pay rates on it!"

If you know anything about this old tramcar, or know of any photos of it, please email me, then I'll pass on the information to John.

Thank you.    -  Peter Stubbs,  October 22, 2009

Old Tramcar

"The tram car shop at Harlaw Reservoir was operated by my great aunt Kate Young, not by her mother.

Her father was a Water Board man, based at the house mentioned. in Recollections 1 above.

Her brother James became Water4 Board man after his father retired, and he too lived there .  The house was extended to a two storey dwelling.

Kate sold crisps, sweets, lemonades. biscuits from the shop.  Cigarettes were also available, but were sold from the house."
