Marchmont Circle

"My friends and I used to get on the tram cars. I think the one we liked best was called the Marchmont Circle.

For twopence, pre-decimal, you could get on this to help the war effort. It was so exciting. We could get on outside the Francis Cafe go all the way past the Meadows and carry on round till we reached Princes Street, up Lothian Road and wind up back at the Francis Cafe."

Lancaster Bomber

"Does anyone remember when all us school kids went to the meadows to a spot near Bruntsfield called Tumbles Hollow to stick sixpenny saving stamps on a Lancaster Bomber."

"Thinking back on my childhood in Edinburgh, I remember getting to carry the torch during the blackout. My sister always fought me for this."

Potato Pete

"I always wanted my Mum to buy me a Potato Pete, and was always told they were a waste of money." ***

Knitting

"I remember wishing, so much, that I could knit and make scarves for the soldiers, so i could hand them in at the Post Office.

End of the War

"I remember sitting in the Blue Halls with my Mum when they stopped rolling the film and a message came on screen to tell us the war in Europe was over. My Mum wept.
