Paper Mill

"I lived at Craiglockhart and we used to take trips out through Currie.  I recall the paper mill there using esparto grass.  It was piled high quite close to the road, so it was a point of interest on the way and featured in our 'I Spy' games."

World War II

The Pentlands

"During World War II, Guides and Brownies from the Currie and Balerno area were involved in collecting sphagnum moss for dressings on the Pentlands.

There are a couple of photos of it on the scran website, which I believe were taken by photographers from 'The Scotsman' newspaper around 1940.

Unfortunately we don’t have any details of it in Currie Guiding Records."
