Weekly Journals

The British Journal of Photography

Published by Hy Greenwood & Co., London.

Editor:  J Traill Taylor

Established 1854 as the Liverpool Photographic Journal, the organ of the Liverpool Photographic Society, it is now the leading photographic journal.

The Photographic News

Published by Piper & Carter, London.

Former editor:  Thomas Bolas

The oldest of the journals.  It tends to concentrate on the scientific side of photography, rather than the commercial side.

The Amateur Photographer

Published by Hazell, Watson & Viney Ltd., London.

Editor: 

It includes correspondence, photographic society news and other articles of interest to amateur photographers.

Photography

Published Iliffe & Son, Coventry and London.

Editor:  Mr Sturmey, with support from W de W Abney, FM Sutcliffe + others.

Estd. 1888.  The journal describes itself as 'The Journal of the Amateur, the Professional and the Trade'.

The Photographic Art Journal

Published by WB Wittingham & Co., London.

Editor:  J Horsley Hinton

Originally published quarterly, then monthly, now weekly.  It describes itself as 'An Independent Journal of News and Practical Information'.

The Camera

Editor:  James Shirley Hudson

The oldest of the journals.  It tends to concentrate on the scientific side of photography, rather than the commercial side.

Photographic Answers

Published by Hampton, Judd & Co, London

Editor:  EJ Wall

Estd. 1889 or 1890.  It includes sections on photo-etching and collotype.

The Optical Magic Lantern Journal

Published by Woodford Fawcett & Co, Dorset, England.

Editor:  J Hay Taylor, son of J Traill Taylor

Estd. 1889.  The journal covers lantern topics and enlarging.
