The Exhibition

The Scottish Parliament is hosting the World Press Photo Exhibition again, in Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, in 2013.  This has now become an annual event at The Scottish Parliament, though I have only occasionally mentioned it in the 'Edinburgh Today' pages on this site, most recently in 2008.

This exhibition is run by World Press Photo, founded in 1955, for professional photographers.  It will travel to 100 locations in 45 different countries.

The photos in the exhibition have been selected from over 103,000 photos submitted by 5,666 photographers in 124 countries.

The Photos

There are about 130 photos in the exhibition, several in sets of 3, 4 or 5 photos, telling a story - in many cases, harrowing stories of trouble and conflict around the world.   I found many of the images and captions to be memorable, thought provoking and unsettling.

Scottish Parliament  -  Opening Times

During August 2013, the Scottish Parliament is in recess.

Opening hours for the exhibition are:

MON - SAT:  10am to 8pm (last entry at 5.00pm)
