Restoration

During recent months [early-2003] , a project has been underway, sponsored by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Scotland, to repair the the roof, masonry and windows of Greyfriars Church, and to return the grey exterior stonework on the church to a mustard yellow shade.

The colour proposed is believed that this is  similar to the shade of harling that covered the church when it was built in the 1600s.  Some evidence of the early harling was found during a recent inspection.

The work was due to be completed by end-November 2003, but one of the companies doing the work ran into financial trouble and went into receivership in April 03.  It is hoped to make alternative arrangements and complete the work on schedule.
