news from Edinburgh City Council
Following protests over the
toppling of unsafe gravestones in some of Edinburgh's cemeteries as
part of a safety drive by Edinburgh City Council, the Council appears t to
be recognising the historical importance of the City's gravestones, and
visitors' interest in the subject.
It now proposes to carry out a study of
the city's historic gravestones, and hopes to work together with
individuals and private organizations on restoration. It is also
considering seeking lottery funding.
