Plans were announced on 16 November 2005
for over 400 new flats, a tree-lined promenade and a terrace cafe area to
be built on a plot in Leith Docs at a cost of £50m.
The site is close to the Scottish Executive Headquarters. It is
on the north of Victoria Quay, adjacent to the
new office block that houses Visit Scotland. A large hoarding has
marked the spot for some time.
The plans have been drawn up by the Edinburgh architects, RMJM.
The flats will range in height from eight to sixteen storeys. 25% of
the flats may be earmarked as 'affordable housing'.
Wimpey have been discussing their plans with Edinburgh Council.
It is expected that the plans will be formally submitted to the council in
early 2006 and that building work will begin in early 2007.
